Developers take on New Bedford mill once slated for demolition

NEW BEDFORD — A multimillion-dollar proposal to transform the Cliftex 1 mill building into rental apartments is wending its way through the city permitting process and will come before the Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday.

The project, if permitted and financed, will secure the future of the historic mill building, which at one time had been slated for demolition.

  New Bedford renewable energy company makes a come back

NEW BEDFORD — Vectrix Corp., an electric scooter company, has been relaunched under new ownership after entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last fall.
The new company, which is incorporated in Delaware, has made New Bedford its U.S. headquarters and has leased space in the New Bedford Business Park that was occupied by the former incarnation of Vectrix, as well, according to Thomas Davis, the park's executive director.

  Runway safety project at New Bedford airport enters public input phase

NEW BEDFORD — The Army Corps of Engineers is soliciting public comments on a multimillion-dollar plan to improve runway safety at the New Bedford Regional Airport, the corps announced this week.

"It's entirely a safety project," said airport Manager Edward DeWitt. "It's not a runway expansion."
